Drove by the Kimmel Park today and noticed that something of was missing. The FENCE! The old fence had been removed. That is sad as that old fence was vintage and has probably been at the park 70 or 80 years! I know it was worn and bent in some places but it sure gave the old park that, well old park look!
With out that fence well, the park does not look like Kimmel Park! Sometime things that have a little age seem to also have a lot of character. It is sad that cities don't understand that.
When I visited Spain a few years back, we had a opportunity to visit many of the parks in several of their large towns. what you will see in those parks is the original fences, statues, fountains, benches and so forth. And this is pretty much what you will find in most European countries.
We in colonies seem determine to tear down the old and put up something new no matter what or how much history is attached!
